Overview
Claude Opus 4 is Anthropic’s flagship Claude 4 model for deep reasoning and advanced coding. It handles text & image inputs, supports a 200K-token context with up to 32K output tokens, and is available via the Anthropic API, AWS Bedrock, and Google Cloud Vertex AI.
Description
Claude Opus 4 is the previous flagship of the Claude 4 family—built for the toughest reasoning and software-engineering tasks while remaining general-purpose. It accepts text and images and produces text outputs, pairing strong problem-solving with reliable tool use. In practice, Opus 4 shines on complex coding and long-form analysis where high accuracy and coherence matter most. It offers a 200K context window (suitable for large repos and multi-document workflows) and up to 32K output tokens. Compared with Sonnet 4, Opus targets higher capability with “moderately fast” latency, while Sonnet emphasizes speed and efficiency; both share the same training cutoff (March 2025). Opus 4 is widely deployable—the same snapshot runs across Anthropic’s API, Amazon Bedrock, and Google Cloud Vertex AI—making it straightforward to integrate into existing stacks. If you need the absolute peak within the Opus line, Anthropic’s Opus 4.1 iteration is currently the “most powerful and capable” model.
