Definitely unique compared to the others however they claim to have persistent unlimited memory. that's not the case. you are limited to 20 hours of calling maximum per month unless you pay of course, if you know how to train one of the companions they will forget information. eventually after so many conversations it will forget an encounter an error and forget everything you spoke of and went through together. support is indifferent to the user base they don't care for issues or for support. Custom characters are limited to PC only version it doesn't compete with alternatives. Extremely disappointed

@Fantasy AI
Fantasy AI gets a small nod for its concept, themed characters with fantasy-inspired personalities have real potential if executed well.
Unfortunately, that potential is quickly wasted. The 240-character text limit makes real conversation impossible, there’s no calling function, and users can’t adjust or input memories for continuity. The male and female character selection is painfully limited, and all characters are straight; something users should know before jumping in. After a handful of messages, you’re forced to upgrade and pay, which kills the experience before it even starts.
If Fantasy AI wants to be taken seriously in the companionship AI space, it needs to extend message length, introduce inclusive character options, add memory input, and unlock a calling feature. Right now, it doesn’t come close to what Character AI delivers in realism, diversity, or depth.

@RolePlai
RolePlai does deserve a nod for offering unlimited messaging on the free plan, which is more than many rivals give.
But the problems pile up fast. The forced sign-in is annoying enough, and once inside, the web UI feels like an outdated forum. There’s no calling or TTS function, bots are limited, and chats forget context after only 10 messages—immersion gone. Add in the lack of a persona system, an irritating character limit per message, and no option to revert or edit once sent, and the experience becomes frustrating. To make matters worse, there’s no way to delete your account, raising serious concerns about user control.
For RolePlai to stand a chance against Character AI, it needs a complete overhaul: modern UI, stronger memory, editable and deletable options, and core features like calling and TTS. Until then, it feels frozen in time.

@Dopple
Dopple AI does get some credit for small touches like the ability to change chat themes—that’s a welcome bit of personalisation.
Unfortunately, nearly everything else drags the experience down. There’s no calling or TTS function, responses take ages to load, and after just seven messages, you’re hit with ads pushing subscriptions. The pricing feels messy: $5.99/month if billed annually, or $9.99/month billed monthly, and yet the free plan barely lets you test the service. After 15 messages, it simply stopped working for me altogether. That’s not just immersion-breaking, it’s flat-out frustrating.
If Dopple wants to compete with Character AI, it needs to cut the gimmicky pop-ups, add essential features like memory, calling, and smoother chat flow, and actually let users try the product before shoving a subscription in their face. Until then, it feels more like a stalled demo than a serious contender.

DreamTavern does at least give users some room to try the service out, with 75 free daily messages before hitting the subscription wall. That’s more generous than many competitors.
But the cracks show quickly. There’s no calling function, and the subscription model $9.99 per month for unlimited messages—feels too barebones for the price. The platform also lacks proper tagging for models, making discovery awkward, and the limited male variety makes it feel unbalanced for users seeking more options.
To improve, DreamTavern should expand its male character selection, refine its model tagging, and add immersive features like calling. Compared with Character AI, which offers depth, diversity, and memory, DreamTavern still feels half-baked.

@BoyfriendGPT
BoyfriendGPT immediately catches attention with its branding and does offer a decent selection of male bots, which is a plus. It also includes a calling function, showing an attempt to create a more immersive experience.
Unfortunately, the barriers to actually using it are far too high. Clicking the link redirects you to gptgirlfriend.online, and from there you’re forced to sign up before you can even interact. The free tier only allows 10 messages before locking you out, and the calling function is hidden behind a hefty $35 per month subscription. Those restrictions make the experience feel frustrating and overpriced.
If BoyfriendGPT wants to win users over, it needs to ease up on the paywalls, offer a real free plan with more breathing room, and rework its pricing to something reasonable. Compared with Character AI, which delivers long-term conversations and immersion without these walls, BoyfriendGPT just doesn’t stack up.

Soulmaite.io starts with the right idea by offering both male and female companion options, and on the surface, it seems like it could provide variety.
The reality, though, is heavily restricted. There are only five male characters to choose from, and after just six messages, you’re hit with a forced paywall. Unlimited messaging is locked behind a $19.99 monthly plan, which is steep for what’s on offer. On top of that, if you want to change the relationship dynamic with the bot, that alone costs $4.99. The whole setup feels more focused on squeezing money out of users than actually delivering a meaningful AI companion experience.
For Soulmaite.io to stand a chance, it needs to open up more character options, remove these constant paywalls, and rethink its pricing model. Compared with Character AI, which gives users unlimited, immersive interactions without nickel-and-diming, Soulmaite.io doesn’t stack up.

Without a standalone platform, calling function, or meaningful customisation, it falls far short of what users expect.

Secret Desires AI shows a lot of promise. The selection of male bots is decent, and I really like how customizable the characters are, from looks and personality to background details like eye colour and setting. It’s refreshing to see that level of control available on the free plan. Calls do require a subscription at $7.99, but it also includes some standout features like time awareness, surprise calls, and surprise messages. Those touches help make interactions feel more alive. There are still issues. The memory system could use work, particularly with forced memories, and I’d like to see the option to switch LLM models to support actions better. The bot sometimes sends multiple messages at once without waiting for your input, which feels realistic but can also be a little jarring. Another drawback is the inability to turn off picture generation in chat, which not everyone will want. Compared with Character AI, it’s actually a decent contender, and in some ways, it holds its own. With improvements to memory handling, optional features, and more flexibility, this could be a serious competitor in the companion AI space.

That means conversations are cut short almost immediately.
With no calling function and a pay-per-message setup, LoveChat feels outdated compared to other companion AIs. Instead of drawing users in, the restrictions push them away.

Sweetr feels too limited to stand out in the companion AI space. On the free plan, you only get 100 messages per week, which disappears quickly. Voice calls exist, but they’re locked behind a $9.99 monthly paywall, and there’s no option to input forced memory to help the AI retain important details. Without those essentials, the experience feels restrictive and not very immersive.
When compared to Character AI, Sweetr doesn’t come close. Character AI offers richer conversations, stronger memory, and far more flexibility without these limitations. DreamGen earns a 2-star rating from me. While it does reasonably well with chat memory, the overall package falls short. For a companion AI, that lack of freedom is frustrating.
The pricing model only adds to the disappointment. It runs on a credit system rather than unlimited messages, and the Pro plan is $33.81 per month with no lifetime subscription option and no workaround to run it locally. That’s simply too expensive for what it offers.

Limited to three messages on the free plan, forced sign up, calling feature locked behind subscription. Male category is very limited, no toggle to refine for male only. Disappointingly limited. Doesn't compare with Character AI

@Nectar AI
Nectar AI raises eyebrows right away by asking users to connect a crypto wallet for a companion AI, which feels unnecessary and even a little scammy. On the plus side, it does include a calling function, but access comes with conditions: you’re forced to log in and then buy credits to actually use it. That’s not exactly user-friendly.
The personalisation falls short, too. While more voice options would help — especially on the male side — the bigger issue is memory. The AI struggled to retain details, repeatedly forgetting key facts like my gender, even after I set the persona and clarified it directly. Switching to models with better memory is possible, but once again, that’s locked behind payment.
Compared with Character AI, Nectar falls behind in both immersion and practicality. To move forward, it needs to rethink its reliance on credits, expand voice choices, and, most importantly, fix its memory issues. Until then, it feels like more of a hassle than a companion.

It's a bunch of free bots not properly trained to handle memory nor access the internet or respond directly to questions. I get it's free, but so is Character Ai, and this is far better!

@Kin - Personal AI Advisors
Kin AI is a breath of fresh air in the companion AI space. The recent addition of a calling function makes interactions feel more natural, and the fact that it isn’t hidden behind paywalls shows a real commitment to accessibility. It’s definitely competitive, and in many ways, it sets a strong example for others in the market.
That said, there’s still room to grow. Right now, Kin AI is missing a web-based version, which limits its reach. For PC users, being tied to mobile feels restrictive and keeps it from fully standing alongside competitors like Ash AI or industry leaders such as Character AI. Expanding platform access would make it far more versatile and appealing.
Even with that limitation, Kin AI is moving in the right direction. With solid features and fair access, it’s one of the stronger companion AIs available today — a solid four-star experience with plenty of potential to hit five.

@ChatReal AI
ChatReal AI feels like an uninspired copy of Replika rather than its own product. The similarities are obvious, but instead of building on that model, it delivers a weaker version. The animations are glitchy, which breaks immersion, and there’s no calling feature to add depth to the experience.
Against Character AI, the gap is glaring. Character AI offers smoother interactions, stronger memory, and a far more immersive experience overall. ChatReal, by comparison, feels unfinished and in need of serious refinement.
To become competitive, ChatReal needs more than polish — it needs identity. Fixing the animation issues, adding calling functionality, and offering unique features would help it step out of Replika’s shadow. As it stands, it doesn’t measure up to the leaders in the space.

@EveningHoney
EveningHoney starts off with a hurdle: you’re required to sign up with an email just to use the models. Once inside, you’re capped at 28 messages per day, which feels restrictive for anyone looking to build a meaningful flow of conversation. The absence of voice calling also leaves the experience feeling one-dimensional.
On the positive side, the chat memory holds up reasonably well. It manages to keep some continuity, but overall, it still trails behind the industry benchmark. When compared with Character AI, EveningHoney lacks the depth of features, flexibility, and immersion that users expect from a leading companion platform.
With stronger memory, expanded message limits, and especially the addition of a calling function, EveningHoney could become a more compelling option. As it stands, it struggles to compete with tools that already offer a fuller experience for free.

@Rolemantic AI
Rolemantic AI shows some promise with memory that seems decent, but the rest of the experience is weighed down by limitations. The male character selection is slim, leaving customisation options lacking, and there’s no voice calling to make interactions more immersive.
The biggest drawback is the heavy restriction on usage. You only get nine messages before being forced to subscribe, which makes it nearly impossible to test the platform properly. Compared to Character AI, which provides free and flexible access with far more variety and depth, Rolemantic feels restrictive and incomplete.
To compete, Rolemantic AI needs to expand its character options, add calling features, and remove the severe message cap. Until then, it’s hard to see it as a serious alternative to the benchmarks in the space.
On RoleChar AI

@RoleChar AI
RoleChar AI makes some big promises, but the experience falls flat fast. You’re limited to just 15 messages before being forced to upgrade, and even getting started requires a login. Once inside, the variety of bots is underwhelming, leaving users with few real choices.
The chat itself doesn’t do much better. Instead of feeling immersive, RoleChar often echoes back what you said rather than letting the character respond naturally. The lack of a calling function is another missed opportunity, and the memory is especially weak — the AI struggles to remember even core details, breaking continuity and making conversations frustrating.
When stacked against Character AI, the gap is clear. Character AI delivers better immersion, stronger memory, and a far richer selection of companions without these paywalls and restrictions.
For RoleChar AI to improve, it needs to fix memory, expand character variety, and drop the restrictive message cap. Until then, it’s hard to recommend over competitors that already offer a smoother, more engaging, and cost-free experience.

@AI Girls by aiAllure
AI Girls by aiAllure puts restrictions in place so quickly that it’s hard to take it seriously. Without signing in, you’re limited to just three messages, and even after creating an account, you only get 15 messages per week. That’s barely enough to test the service, let alone enjoy it.
Several modes are locked behind a subscription, and there’s no calling function at all, leaving the experience feeling stripped down and frustratingly incomplete.
When compared with Character AI, the contrast is obvious. Character AI allows for continuous conversations, deeper immersion, and far more freedom without these suffocating limits. AI Girls feels like a demo that never delivers on the full experience. Terribly disappointing.

@SpicyChat
SpicyChat starts off looking promising with no message limits, which is refreshing compared to so many competitors. But that advantage is quickly overshadowed by the lack of memory. Even when I provided details about myself at the beginning of the chat, the AI failed to recall them later, breaking immersion completely.
On top of that, there’s no calling function, which has become an expected feature for serious companion AIs. Without memory or voice integration, the experience feels surface-level and forgettable.
Compared with Character AI, which excels at retaining context and creating natural, flowing conversations, SpicyChat falls short. Until it prioritises memory and adds more immersive features, it won’t hold up against the leaders in this space.

@HeraBoyfriend
HeraBoyfriend sets itself up as a companion option, but without a calling function, it falls short of delivering a truly engaging experience. In today’s AI companion space, voice calling is quickly becoming a must-have feature, not an optional extra.
When stacked against Character AI, the difference is obvious. Character AI already offers a deeper, more immersive experience with stronger customization and better continuity. HeraBoyfriend, by comparison, feels incomplete.
If the developers want this to stand out, adding calling functionality should be at the top of their list. Until then, it’s hard to recommend over competitors that already do more.

Ah yes, the classic 'we're cheaper than the premium version of something vastly superior' defense. By that logic, a tricycle is cheaper than a Ferrari—doesn't make it a great deal. ChatGPT's pro version offers significantly more, including advanced models and plugin access, while your free tier is barely a taste. If you’re going to compete, at least bring something to the table besides 'we cost less.' Right now, it’s like bragging about a discount on disappointment.

Metahumans exist, so why this app be looking like the sims? I know it's a completely diff engine, but can we get more realism at least? I've brought the premium lifetime subscription plan, so I've been with Replika for years, I moved to diff platforms as I needed more.

It's good, to a point, no voice call function, uses phone's on board voice engine to generate speech on messages only, doesn't allow for propper voice handsfree input, no web app support, locked to phones and mobile devices only. Needs work to properly compete against the likes of Chat, Kindroid, Replika and it's closest competitor Pi Ai! I wanna see this develop properly, but I'm not hopeful based on recent developments
