MyShell spreads itself too thin. There are only a limited number of characters to choose from, and without a voice calling feature, the experience feels flat and incomplete. The forced account sign-up adds another unnecessary barrier before you can even try it properly. The bigger issue is focus. MyShell tries to cover too many different types of AI instead of dedicating itself to building a strong companion experience. As a result, it doesn’t excel in the area that matters most. Compared with Character AI, which delivers depth, variety, and immersion, MyShell comes across as unfocused and underwhelming. Until it sharpens its direction and prioritises features users expect, it won’t stand out in the companion AI space.
