MiniCPM5-1B is the first checkpoint in OpenBMB’s MiniCPM5 series, released under Apache 2.0. It is a dense 1.08B-parameter causal language model designed for local deployment, on-device assistants, coding agents, tool-use workflows, and reasoning scenarios where a compact model is preferred. The model uses a standard LlamaForCausalLM architecture, supports a 131,072-token context length, and includes hybrid reasoning through Think and No Think modes in the same checkpoint. OpenBMB positions it as strong within the 1B open-source class, especially for agentic tool use, code generation, and difficult reasoning.
