  Gemini 3 is integrated into Google Search from day one as the default AI model, while Gemini 2.x mainly powered the Gemini app, Workspace features, and APIs rather than core search by default. Gemini 3 introduces stronger agentic features like Gemini Agent and the Antigravity dev platform for multi step task automation and autonomous coding, which go beyond Gemini 2.x’s more traditional tool use. Gemini 3 shows higher benchmark performance, including a top LMArena score that beats Gemini 2.5 Pro. Gemini 3 is positioned more as a full personal and work assistant for planning, study and life tasks, while Gemini 2.x was framed mainly as a multimodal chat and coding assistant with large context and tool use. Gemini 3’s search and app experience emphasizes richer interactive answers with visuals and structured content; Gemini 2.x already supported multimodal input, but did not drive this new search experience system wide.
