MiniMax says M3 uses its proprietary MiniMax Sparse Attention architecture, supports up to a 1M-token context window with a guaranteed minimum of 512K tokens, and was trained multimodally from the start rather than adding vision later. It targets AI coding assistants, autonomous task decomposition, tool invocation, multi-step reasoning, long-video understanding, and long-range agent tasks. MiniMax’s page says full open-source release on Hugging Face and GitHub is planned for local deployment and fine-tuning.
