Seedream 4.0 represents a major evolution in ByteDance’s suite of AI image tools, merging what previously were separate functionalities (image generation + editing) into a unified, high‑performance creative engine. It was officially released in early September 2025
Multimodal input: Users can generate images from text prompts and/or supply up to six reference images. These references help maintain stylistic consistency and identity across outputs.
High speed + high resolution: Typical 2K image generation takes under ~2 seconds; there are also paths to produce 4K or near‑print quality visuals.
Editing with precision: It allows text‑based edits (e.g. changing elements, adjusting lighting/background, removing or adding objects) with strong preservation of detail, character identity, and layout integrity. Text and typography capabilities are improved, which is important for things like ads, posters, or any content with written elements.
Scene understanding and coherence: Seedream 4.0 handles more complex scenes, understands spatial relationships better, and is designed to keep multiple images consistent when they are related (for example, storyboards or series) rather than treating each image totally independently.
