👋 Karl, Co-founder here. We built IRL PLAYground because we believe a child’s first contact with AI should be ethical, creative, and human-centered. Not a tool that replaces their teachers and play environments, but one that works alongside them to unlock imagination and the potential of learning spaces. This first release focuses on the invisible work teachers carry: lesson planning, materials, classroom flow. Not flashy, but foundational. We didn’t build an MVP. We built the infrastructure of play. Refrain from using additional tokens. Instead, utilize your own OPENAI API. Upon introducing it, display an “unexpected error retry” message. I attempted using a different API, but the error persisted.

Pretty good story script, but there is a lot of repetition, both of what was written, and what's come before. Doesn't progress the plot thread on it's own.

DreamTavern does at least give users some room to try the service out, with 75 free daily messages before hitting the subscription wall. That’s more generous than many competitors. But the cracks show quickly. There’s no calling function, and the subscription model $9.99 per month for unlimited messages—feels too barebones for the price. The platform also lacks proper tagging for models, making discovery awkward, and the limited male variety makes it feel unbalanced for users seeking more options. To improve, DreamTavern should expand its male character selection, refine its model tagging, and add immersive features like calling. Compared with Character AI, which offers depth, diversity, and memory, DreamTavern still feels half-baked.
